    I just took a quick look at the WP site for the online faculty, and it looks really interesting! So is the idea that faculty go through the courses, post on their own blogs, and then all those blog posts get aggregated into the “blog” part of the site? Can they show up near where the instructions for the various posts are, so people can see what others have done in response to those instructions, and interact with them? I mean, as they’re going through each of the courses. Or is it that the blog posts are all collected together in the one spot under “blog”?

    I’m just wondering if it might be nice for people to see the particular posts for each activity. Honestly, though, I am not the person to ask to find out how to do this (I am a WP novice, really!).

      Wee bit of a delay in me responding here, no?

      Good questions, and you are correct that participants respond on their own blogs and then posts are aggregated here under ‘Blog’.

      I agree that it would be great to provide a little more context around their posts, such as which post they were responding to, but I’m not sure how to do that without just having them respond directly on the main blog. I think that is partly achieved by having participants categorize their posts, but perhaps I need to put some thought into what to do with those aggregated and categorized posts once they show up on the main site. Maybe a menu item that draws from aggregated posts and sorts into each of the courses.

      Thanks for triggering my thoughts on this.

    Hi Colin:

    I’m the queen of delayed responses to comments, so no worries!

    What we did in the Teaching with WordPress course is ask people to tag their posts with specific tags for some of the activities. Then we used a shortcode to pull in all the posts with those tags onto the page where the activity is. That’s what we did here, for example: http://blogs.ubc.ca/teachwordpress/week-1-discussion/. We used a plugin called Loop Shortcode 1.1, which was made at UBC and not available (yet?) through WP plugins but it is on github. This plugin looks like it does something similar: Custom Content Shortcode.

    Don’t know if any of this is of any help, but I thought I’d explain how we did it, once I figured it out myself!
